First Lady Kim Henry and Oklahoma Heart Hospital Partner to Provide Free Capitol Health Screening

 Oklahoma Heart Hospital Offers Free Heart Screening Part of Go Red for Women Heart Education Campaign

 OKLAHOMA CITY— First Lady Kim Henry hosted a mini-heart health screening at the State Capitol on Thursday, February 13th as part of the “Go Red for Women” education campaign against heart disease. 

The screening was performed by a team of nurses and technicians from the Oklahoma Heart Hospital and included on-site cholesterol and blood pressure testing--two of the major risk factors for heart disease and stroke. 

"Every day in Oklahoma, 19 women die from heart disease.  We are ranked worst in the nation in the number of women per capita who die of heart disease

and we must turn those sad statistics around,” said First Lady Kim Henry.   “Knowing your personal risk of heart disease is a great first step. Everyone needs to know their numbers when it comes to heart disease, their cholesterol levels, triglycerides, pulse and blood pressure.”  

The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign continues throughout February in Oklahoma – a campaign to better educate women about their risk for heart disease. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women, 1 in 2 women will struggle against heart disease in their lives and women die of heart disease more often than men.  

Oklahoma Heart Hospital is recognizing Go Red for Women this month with a the “Dress the Globe Red” display that will remain open 24/7 throughout the month

Lt. Governor Jari Askins joins mini heart health screening

of February featuring dresses from Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, South America, Oklahoma, the South Pacific, Russia, and more.  Each dress comes with educational information about heart disease in the women of that region and origins of the garment on display.  Some of the dresses will be on display at the Capitol first floor rotunda.
